Betsson receives casino and sports betting license in Brazil

Betsson has received a local license to operate online casino and sports betting in the newly regulated Brazil market. The license, which went live on February 25 2025, allows Betsson to offer its services to players in the region, adding to its existing collection of LatAm licenses.
Other nations in the continent that Betsson is licensed in include Argentina, Peru and Colombia.
On receiving the license, Betsson AB President and CEO Pontus Lindwall said, “We welcome the introduction of a local regulatory framework in Brazil and are pleased to have obtained a license. This step aligns with our strategy to grow via geographical expansion, and we look forward to offering Brazilian customers a secure and high-quality gaming experience.”
Indeed, with the legalization and regulation of the online gaming industry in Brazil at the start of the year, a range of operators and suppliers have announced their acquisition of licenses and entrances into the market.
In early January, Kambi announced a partnership with Stake in Brazil, bringing its turnkey sportsbook solution to Stake ahead of its Brazil launch. Other entrants included Light & Wonder, Greentube (in partnership with bet365), BGaming and SmartSoft.
The market is regulated by the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance (SPA-MF). In early February, it released a public consultation for its 2025-26 Regulatory Agenda, which offered a 45-day window for groups to submit written contributions to the Agenda.
The Regulatory Agenda is set to be published on April 4, with points of interest expected to be betting, regulation of commercial promotions, instant lottery and more.
