Tennessee sports betting handle reaches $543.6m in January

The Tennessee Sports Wagering Council (SWC) has released its monthly sports betting report for the month of January.
The state’s gross handle for the month reached $543.6m, up by nearly $78m year-over-year. However, wagers fell month-over-month. January’s total was not enough to exceed the state’s $572.7m December sports betting handle.
Gross wagers last month totaled $548.9m, with an adjustment of $5.3m.
Tennessee’s monthly sports betting handles have exceeded $500m for the past several months.
However, last month’s total was not enough to surpass the state’s sports betting handle record, set in November 2024. Wagers statewide reached $594m during that month.
Sports betting across the state generated more than $10m in taxes last month.

Along with the District of Columbia, 38 states have legal and regulated retail sports wagering markets in place since the US Supreme Court overturned the federal ban on sports betting. Mobile sports betting is currently legal in 30 states.
In related news, the Hoosier state posted its January sports betting results. The Indiana Gaming Commission reported a $538.7m handle for the month.
Last month’s handle reflected a $58m increase when compared to results posted in January 2024.
Ameristar Casino and Blue Chip Casino combined contributed to more than half of the state’s total sports betting handle and were the top earners for the month of January.
Ameristar’s handle for the month reached $185.8m, while wagers at Blue Chip totaled $181.1m.
Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg grabbed the third-place spot during January, with a $43m sports betting handle.
