Cavanaugh will take over the top job on an interim basis after Greg Moore handed in his resignation to pursue a new opportunity in the private sector, back in November.
Moore took up the position of interim CEO and president in August 2019 after permanent incumbent Jim Lightbody, was forced to take a medical leave after undergoing treatment for cancer but is still expected to reassume his position once given the all-clear.
Cavanaugh joins the lottery and online operator following a nine-year spell until 2020 as assistant deputy minister in the Ministries of the Attorney General, Public Safety and Solicitor General.
She has numerous years of experience in the public service industry in British Colombia, and has been described as bringing “vast experience in leadership, finance, technology, infrastructure and policy" to the operator.
The interim president and CEO will be based at her home in Sidney given COVID-19 measures in the province and will only travel to BCLC’s offices when safe to do so.
In August, BCLC reported revenue of CA$2.53bn (US$1.99bn) for the 2019/20 financial year, a 2% drop year-on-year with the final quarter heavily disrupted by the pandemic.
