Key points:
- Some fraudulent websites have already been identified and taken down
- Scam messages will often relate to the winning of a lottery prize
In response to a number of phishing attempts, TheLotter US has warned customers about being aware of potential scams.
Several websites were identified by the online lottery courier service’s fraud and security team and subsequently taken down.
Much of these fraudulent emails and messages related to informing people that they have won a lottery prize, with TheLotter US advising consumers to keep an eye out for potential indicators of fraud such as fake email addresses, requests for personal information, unusual payment demands, etc.
On top of advising customers to be cautious, the group has also urged people to report the suspicious communications to the relevant authorities, such as the Federal Trade Commission or the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.
TheLotter Group CEO Yael Hertz said: "Security is at the core of our service, and our top priority is ensuring customers feel confident when playing online.
