Lottery.com, an Austin, Texas-based company that enables consumers to play state-sanctioned lottery games from a mobile device, on Thursday said it recently had its first million-dollar prize winner.
The company said one of its players hit a $1 million prize by matching five numbers in the January 13 Powerball drawing.
Thanks to a historic confluence of giant jackpots in both the Mega Millions and Powerball multi-state lottery games, Lottery.com said its ticket sales have increased by more than 300% this month compared to last month.
The Powerball jackpot reached $730m before a player claimed the top prize in the January 20 draw. Mega Millions rolled over again in the most recent draw, with the jackpot reaching an estimated $970m for the January 22 draw.
Lottery ticket sales historically increase in conjunction with high jackpots, Lottery.com said.
“I am delighted to celebrate our first seven-figure winner,” Lottery.com CEO Tony DiMatteo said in a statement. “It is really gratifying to be a part of the excitement surrounding the large Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots during what has been a really stressful time for a lot of people, and we are excited to see how much our users will take home in prize money.”
In addition to the $1 million win, Lottery.com said some of its players have won $155,000 in prize money in January.
Users on the platform keep 100% of their winnings, the company noted.
As reported by Gaming America last week, Lottery.com recently added Colorado to its service territory.
On Nov. 19, 2020, Lottery.com announced a binding letter of intent to combine with Trident Acquisitions Corp., which would make Lottery.com a publicly traded company on The Nasdaq Stock Market.
