Digital marketing agency now licensed in 10 states plus D.C.

MediaTroopers on Wednesday said it has received its sports betting vendor license from the state of Virginia.

The digital marketing agency is based in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. The company has branched into online gaming in regulated US jurisdictions.

The company currently is licensed and operates in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Indiana, Tennessee, Illinois, Michigan, Iowa, West Virginia and Washington D.C.

Sam Segal, CEO of MediaTroopers, said the new license means the company will be able to bring its operations to a 10th state. It intends to provide marketing services for licensed sports betting operators there, he added, by tapping its partnerships with sports betting app operators in other regulated states.

“We are excited to receive this vote of confidence from the government and the people of Virginia,” Segal said in a statement. “However, we are aware that along with this big opportunity comes a serious responsibility to promote fairness and safe, responsible gambling.”

Segal noted Virginia has a population of approximately 8.5m, similar to one of the company’s most successful states, New Jersey.

“Our prospects for Virginia are huge,” he declared.

MediaTroopers did not specify the date it will launch in Virginia, saying only it is “right around the corner.”

Virginia’s legislature passed bills to legalize sports betting in April 2020. Governor Ralph Northam signed the bills into law in July. MediaTroopers said the first sports betting apps and websites are expected to launch in the state this month.

“This is another milestone in our expansion and growth in the US regulated market,” Segal said. “In addition to Virginia, there are a number of other states expected to launch sports betting this year, and we are already working closely with these states to be ready as soon as they go live.”
