Massachusetts: November casino GGR hits $100m, with sports wagering handle at $777.8m

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) has posted the state’s latest gaming figures for the month of November, revealing a casino GGR of $100.8m and sports wagering handle of $777.8m.
Sports wagering: Handle
Regarding sports wagering, online largely dominated the segment, producing a handle of $764.1m during the month, with the remaining $13.8m of the overall handle being made up by retail venues.
Overall, Massachusetts’ sports wagering handle rose by a positive 17.2% year-over-year, also marking a 3.9% increase in comparison to figures from October 2024. Further, during the month, the MGC released an official seal of approval for licensed operators in the state to include on their digital platforms.
Sports wagering: Revenue
The overall wagering handle taken during November generated a total of $80.5m in revenue for the state, marking a decided rise of 48.8% year-over-year alongside an almost identical rise of 50% month-over-month.
Tax collected by the state from sports wagering practices in November 2024 also amounted to a figure of $16.05m.
Sports wagering: Operators
Encore Boston Harbor led the way for retail betting in November, recording the highest handle of the state’s three retail operators by taking $7.3m during the month. However, this figure is dwarfed by the amount wagered with the leading online operator, DraftKings, which took $384.1m in sports wagers during November.
Interestingly, the operators’ Q3 2024 results revealed a net loss of nearly $293.7m. Coming behind DraftKings in Massachusetts was FanDuel, who posted a sports betting handle of $225.7m during November.

Casino gaming: GGR & Tax
The $100.9m GGR figure generated by casino gaming in Massachusetts during November combines with sports wagering revenue figures to create a total revenue of $181.3m for the month.
Further, this figure marks an increase of 7.04% year-over-year, backed up by a further rise of 6.9% in comparison to October 2024.
Regarding tax, a total of $28.7m was collected by the state from casino gaming during November 2024, up 8.7% year-over-year and 6.4% month-over-month.

Finally, breaking down November’s casino gaming results, slots led the way generating a GGR of $68.9m, a rise of 10.7% year-over-year, while table game GGR in fact decreased by a marginal 0.5% when compared to results from last November.
