Tribal Nations in Oklahoma say they support statewide legal sports betting
The state attempted to bring a legal market to the state last year.

Tribal nations in the state of Oklahoma have voiced their support for a plan to legalize sports betting around the state, according to a KTEN local news report.
To date, 38 states along with the District of Columbia have opened legal sports wagering market. The US Supreme voted to overturn the previously established federal ban on sports betting more than six years ago.
Governor Kevin Stitt offered a plan to bring a legal market to Oklahoma last fall. However, state legislators were not able to bring the plan to fruition during its spring session.
Oklahoma Indiana Gaming Association (OIGA) Chairman Matthew Morgan Chairman Matthew Morgan told local news that Tribal Nation are willing to support an effort to legalize sports betting in Oklahoma, with the understand that the state would honor and abide by the current compacts in place.
He commented, “Looking at what that means as a business opportunity but also looking at what it means in order to set up something like this and inherent risk anytime you offer anything new, I think they’ve done a great job at being prepared and ready to do something if and when the legislature and the governor decide that is something they want to offer.”
Morgan recently participated in a panel discussion at this year’s G2E in Las Vegas on the topic of Tribal sovereignty.
Other panelists included California Nations Indian Gaming Association (CNIGA) Chairman the Morongo Band of Mission Indians Vice Chairman James Siva, Washington Indian Gaming Association Executive Director Rebecca George and Minnesota Indian Gaming Association Executive Director Andy Platto.
