Key points:
- Brazil will launch its regulated sports betting and iGaming markets in January
- Facial recognition and an official website domain are among the added measures
The Instituto Brasileiro de Jogo Responsável (IBJR) has released a manifesto that outlines guidelines for play and processes to encourage “transparency, security and integrity.”
The manifesto lays out measures for market security, including implementing facial recognition technology as a method to dissuade underage gambling.
Authorized operating brands in the country will have the .bet.br domain added to their websites to distinguish those as legal sites for players.
IBJR said in a statement, “Our goal is to promote all efforts to develop a sustainable, safe, reliable online betting ecosystem that generates benefits for the whole society.
“The Brazilian online betting market celebrates the regulation and trusts in its firm application. Only then will it be possible to avoid a game without rules and without a judge. Some reprehensible practices have already been identified by the authorities, who are active and vigilant to curb illegalities.”
The country is scheduled to open both its legal and regulated sports betting and iGaming markets January 1.
Good to know: The organization represents 75% of the country’s gaming market
The organization also recently established a list of principles for players that are intended to “ensure consumer protection in online gambling activities” throughout the country.
The IBJR published 15 principles that include protection for minors, providing clear and working with third-party providers that are properly licensed, and evidence-based consumer protection research and initiatives.
The LOTERJ recently released betting guidelines that include requiring licensed bookmakers to adopt responsible gaming programs.
LOTERJ President Hazenclever Lopes Cançado commented, "We have established modern and rigorous requirements in the accreditation of Bookmakers, ensuring a safe environment, where responsible gaming practices play a crucial role in protecting bettors.”
