Macau gross gaming revenue reaches MOP 20.8bn in October

The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has released figures for gaming revenue in Macau for the month of October.
Monthly gross gaming revenue (GGR) reached MOP 20.8bn ($2.60bn), representing an increase of 6.6% year-on-year, or 20.5% from September’s figure.

This is also the highest GGR since the Covid-19 pandemic, with January 2020’s MOP 22.1bn figure the last time it was surpassed. However, October 2019’s GGR was MOP 26.4bn, meaning October 2024’s GGR is still 21.4% lower than pre-pandemic levels.
Looking at cumulative GGR, this was valued at MOP 190.1bn, which represents a rise of 28.1% compared to the same period last year. Compared to September’s cumulative GGR, October’s figure was up 12.3%.
One of the key reasons behind the positive results has been put down to Golden Week in China, which took place during the first week of October. The event happens each year, and generally seeing an increase in tourism to the region.
Reports have suggested there had been a surge in tourism numbers for the month. September’s visitor numbers reached 2,528,011, which is back to 91.4% of the figure in the same month in 2019.
In related results-based news, MGM Resorts International has released its third quarter financial results for 2024, with positive figures primarily driven by improved revenue and adjusted property EBITDAR from the company’s MGM China sector.
