Colorado sports wagering handle reaches $563m for September

The Colorado Division of Gaming has published its sports betting results for the month of September. The regulator serves as part of the Colorado Department of Revenue (CDOR).
For the past several months, the state has posted sports wagering handles that have surpassed the $500m mark. Last month exceeded this total as well, with its sports betting handle reaching nearly $563m.
Online sports betting raked in close to $558m of September’s total handle, while retail locations took another more than $4.8m in bets.
September proved to be a good month for Colorado sports wagerers, who took home nearly $508m in winnings during the month.
Out of the total winnings, online players scored close to $503.4m, while those betting at retail locations walked away with almost $4.4m.
More players placed bets on professional football during September than they did on any other sports. Wagers on football last month reached $173m.
Other heavy hitters included parlays and baseball, raked in bets totaling $135m and $69m respectively.

Since the US Supreme Court overturned the national ban on legalized sports betting in 2018, more than 35 states have set up regulated sports wagering markets within their borders.
Last month, sports betting generated more than $55m in revenue. More than $54.6m from online betting, while the remaining $464,498 came from the state’s retail locations.
Colorado collected more than $4m in taxes for the month.
In related news, global betting operator Betsson Group recently announced a decision to stop operating in the state of Colorado.
Betsson first launched its sportsbook in Colorado in March 2022 under its Betsafe brand after receiving GLI 33 certification. The company also opened an office in Denver to support its B2B operations.
