Pennsylvania regulator reports $5.89bn in legalized gaming revenue for FY2024

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has released published its latest annual report.

The 18th edition of the state’s report outlines details regarding what the agency has done to regulate the gaming industry in the Commonwealth.

Pennsylvania saw a 6.8% increase in revenue during the fiscal year, which reached $5.89bn. The Board also reported that legalized gambling throughout the commonwealth produced $2.54bn in tax revenue.

Combined casino revenue from slots and table games totaled $3.4bn for the 2023/2024 fiscal year.

Pennsylvania iGaming saw growth as well, to the tune of welcoming six more sites to its regulated lineup. Players throughout that now have access to iGaming on 22 sites.

IGaming revenue grew by 27% year-over-year and reached a total of $1.9bn.

Players statewide wagered close to $8.1bn on sports during the fiscal year. Sports betting generated an annual revenue total of $486m.

Good to know: The Control Board has been serving the statewide legal gaming industry for nearly 20 years

During the past year, the Board has received and authorized 20 consent agreements that were negotiated by its Office of Enforcement (OEC), and issued more than $0.7m in civil penalties and fines.

The state’s Office of Compulsive and Problem Gambling (OCPG) took several measures during the year to boost problem gambling awareness and encourage responsible gaming practices.

These efforts included attending outreach events, where the group gave out resources on gambling disorder assistance. The OCPG also provided resource material that directs the public to toll-free helplines for treatment and referral services.

The PGCB first formed in 2004 and regulates various forms of gaming around the state, including video gaming terminals (VGTs), slots, table games, iGaming, sports betting and fantasy contests.

The group is responsible for regulating the state’s 17 land-based casinos, 18 retail sports wagering locations, 12 online sports wagering sites, 22 sites for online casino-type games (slot machines, table games, poker), 74 truck stop establishments with Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) and nine online fantasy sports contest sites.
