Culinary Local 226 faces complaint from former employee

A Mirage worker has accused the union of not fulling disclosing severance package information.
The Culinary Union Local 226 has been accused of “not fulling informing about how the now-closed property’s severance package would be administered,” according to a recent Las Vegas Review-Journal report.
A former worker recently filed a labor charge against the union on August 6.
The National Labor Relations Board provided records to the Review-Journal, outlining the specifics of the charges against Local 226.
The official complaint stated, “During the past six months, the above-named labor organization, through its officers, agents and representatives has restrained and coerced employees in the exercise of the rights guaranteed in Section 7 of the National Labor Relations Act, by its actions, including, but not limited to: Refusing and (sic) accept the grievances of its bargaining unit employees concerning their status as employees and the closing of the Mirage Hotel and Casino for arbitrary, discriminatory or in bad faith.”
However, charges were not filed against the worker’s former employer, the local report said. Mirage hotel-casino management received a letter, explaining that the former employee has not filed charges against the destination.
The Mirage closed during the summer. The casino hotel ran for 34 years on the Vegas Strip and first welcomed guests in 1989. The property changed hands in late 2022 after MGM Resorts International sold it to Hard Rock Internation for $1.08bn.
The Seminole Tribe of Florida acquired the Hard Rock brand in 2007. Since Hard Rock’s founding, the brand has globally expanded to include more than 250 locations.
The company recently relaunched Hard Rock Bet in Florida, giving players statewide access to mobile sports betting.
