Ohio launches new problem gambling telehealth system network

Residents can reach out for free mental health support and help with problem gambling disorders.
The Problem Gambling Network of Ohio (PGNO) has premiered a telehealth system called the Ohio Gaming Telehealth Network (OGTN).
This new system offers Buckeye State residents access to mental health support at no cost. Players in Ohio can reach out through this network for help regarding problem gambling disorders. The network also provides a space for those who have questions and concerns related to problem gambling.
PGNO Executive Director Derek Longmeier explained the program in more detail in a recent social media post.
He commented, “Our focus for OGTN is greater than the name implies. OGTN is designed as a safety net for individuals who live in communities without local access to a qualified gambling counselor.
“Our primary goal is to build the workforce of local providers qualified to provide gambling counseling.”
He went on to note that the OGTN’s primary focus during the next year involves “expanding its network of mental health providers.”
Legal sports betting has been available in Ohio since January 2023. However, the state is now considering opening a market for iGaming.
Ohio Senator Niraj Antani recently introduced a bill that would expand statewide gambling from racino and brick-and-mortar locations to the internet.
The senator said he believes the state is ready for expanded gambling due to the success of sports betting since the market’s debut.
He commented to local news, “As gaming has evolved in our state and we’ve seen massive success with sports betting, it’s now time to legalize iGaming in Ohio. Many Ohioans don’t have close access to a casino or racino but should be able to participate in this entertainment option.
“It’s time to bring iGaming out of the black market, and into the sunshine to provide it safely to all Ohioans.”
