Former MGM Resorts International workers sue over Covid-19 vaccine requirement

They claim they lost their jobs by not getting the shot ‘for religious reasons.’
Several former MGM Resorts International employees have filed a lawsuit against the company, according to a recent Las Vegas Review-Journal report. Six former employees filed wrongful termination suits, claiming that they were fired because they refused to receive a Covid-19 vaccine.
The former works said the terminations “violated federal and state laws against discrimination and engaged in unlawful employment practices,” according to the suit.
MGM was among the first domestic operators to require the vaccine for salaried employees soon after it was released in 2021. The following August, the company expanded its vaccine mandate to include hourly employees and said that everyone needed to meet the requirement by October 15, 2021.
The suits were filed between December 2022 and July 2024 in the US District Court of Nevada. These suits could likely be consolidated by a federal judge, the local report said.
The former employees “sought a religious exemption from MGM’s 2021 COVID-19 vaccine mandate for salaried workers,” according to the court documents.
After the exemptions were denied, these workers later lost their jobs.
At this time, MGM Resorts International has not commented on the pending suits.
At the request of both parties, three complaints have already been consolidated, according to the local report. A federal judge will consider consolidating the new complaints that were recently filed last month with the current joint filing.
MGM Resorts operates five non-gaming hotels and nine casino hotels on the Las Vegas Strip. To date, its BetMGM online brand has extended its digital footprint to include more than 25 jurisdictions. During the past year, BetMGM has launched in six North American markets, including New York, Louisiana, Illinois, Ontario, Kansas and Maryland.
