Nebraska moves a step closer to legalized online sports betting
The General Affairs Committee advanced a bill during a special session.
Lawmakers in Nebraska have advanced a proposed constitutional amendment that could pave the way for statewide legalized sports betting, according to a Lincoln Journal Star news report.
LR3CA, a proposal put forward by Senator Eliot Bostar, was passed by the General Affairs Committee during a special legislative session called by Governor Jim Pillen.
The committee advanced the proposal by a vote of five to two during day 10 of the session.
Bostar pitched both LR3CA and a companion bill to legislators as part of an initiative to reduce property tax bills and drive new revenues, the local report said.
Should these go into effect, voters could have a chance to pull the lever for legalized online sports betting during the November election.
Bostar shared with the committee during a hearing in July that “thousands of Nebraskans are already placing bets online, either by crossing state lines or through other methods, and that Nebraska should legalize and regulate those activities.”
In other state news, WarHorse Casino recently celebrated the grand opening of its latest casino in Omaha after holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Casino guests now have access to 800 slot machines, table games, sports betting and simulcasting within the city of Omaha.
WarHorse Gaming is a division of its parent company, Ho-Chunk, Inc. The company is currently regulated by the Nebraska Gaming Commission.
WarHorse Gaming recently signed an on-property sportsbook agreement with Kambi that resulted in the launch of Nebraska’s first sportsbook at WarHorse Casino Lincoln. Under the terms of the deal, WarHorse Gaming will debut its Lincoln casino sportsbook, with another sportsbook launch at WarHorse Casino Omaha.
