Maryland casinos see $4.5m decrease for July gaming revenue year-over-year
The state currently offers six privately owned casinos that each include both slot machines and table games.
Maryland Lottery and Gaming has released the state’s financial results regarding gaming revenue generated throughout the month of July. Maryland’s six casinos combined to generate $169.8m in revenue from slot machines and table games during July 2024, a decrease of $4.5m year-over-year.
Casino gaming contributions to the state during July 2024 totaled just under $72.2m, a decrease of 1.4% compared to the prior year period.
The state currently offers six privately owned casinos that include both slot machines and table games, with each reporting decreases in revenue for the month of July. MGM National Harbor in Prince George’s County generated the most revenue of any property during July 2024, but still decreased 0.2% year-over-year for a reported total of just under $72m.
Live! Casino & Hotel in Anne Arundel County decreased by nearly the same margin, reporting a July 2024 revenue of $62.6m as compared to the prior year period.
Horseshoe Casino Baltimore saw the largest decrease of the six properties, falling 16.9% for a July 2024 revenue total of $13.3m.
Ocean Downs Casino reported a revenue of $9.6m for July 2024, a decrease of $460k year-over-year.
Hollywood Casino decreased 2.8% as well, with a total of just under $7.3m for July 2024, while Rocky Gap Casino decreased -13.4% from July 2023 for a revenue of just over $5m.
Contributions to the Education Trust Fund during July 2024 were $52m a decrease of -1.4% compared to July 2023. Casino gaming revenues also support the communities and jurisdictions where the casinos are located, Maryland’s horse racing industry and small, minority- and women-owned businesses.
