Arizona Department of Gaming allocates two event wagering licenses

These were granted to designees of two local Tribes.
The Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) has allocated two event wagering licenses to designees of Tribal operators.
The regulator allocated one event wagering license to Plannatech, which is the designee for San Carlos Apache Tribal Gaming Enterprise. Another event wagering license was allocated to Sporttrade, the designee for the Quechan Indian Tribe of the Fort Yuma Indian Reservation.
Arizona state law allows the Department of Gaming to issue 20 licenses to operators. These are split between 10 Tribes and 10 sports teams.
The ADG granted these licenses after announcing it would accept applications from July 8 to July 19. Applicants were required to submit applications within the specified timeframe for consideration, the regulator said.
The state said that it would take applications for event wagering licenses and that these “included no less than one event wagering license reserved for Arizona Tribes and no less than one event wagering license reserved for Arizona Sports Franchises.”
Since the market’s debut, the Arizona Department of Gaming has served as the state’s regulatory body.
Arizona has welcomed legal sports betting outside of Tribal gaming for more than three years. The state first legalized sports wagers in April 2021 after Governor Doug Ducey signed the bill into law. The state debuted its sports wagering market in September 2021.
To date, more than 35 states have embraced regulated sports betting since the US Supreme Court overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) in May 2018, also known as the Bradley Act.
