She will step into her new position next month.

The Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Corporation (KHRGC) has appointed Susan Speckert to serve as its new COO. She will assume her new duties on August 19.

Prior to her recent appointment, Speckert served as General Counsel of the KHRGC and as the Commissioner of Law for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government.

Speckert also is a graduate of Loyola Law School. She has lived in Lexington since 2005 and is married to Christopher Speckert, a retired multiple-graded stakes winning thoroughbred trainer.

The couple currently lives on a farm with their horses, as well as their five rescue dogs.

President & CEO Jamie Eads said that Speckert’s familiarity with the industry makes her the ideal choice for COO.

Eads commented, “Susan’s commitment to and knowledge of the horse racing industry is well known.

“Her professional experience makes her uniquely qualified to serve as the KHRGC’s first COO.”

Board Chair Jon Rabinowitz agreed and welcomed Speckert to the group by saying, “Susan is a well-respected attorney and community leader with the right experience and knowledge to serve in this crucial role.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I welcome Susan to the team.”

Speckert took a moment to express her excitement to step into her new role.

She said, “I am honored to work alongside the outstanding team at the KHRGC to ensure Kentucky continues to lead in protecting the health, safety, and welfare of horses, riders and all participants as well as the wagering public.

“I am grateful to the Board of Directors and President & CEO Jamie Eads for the opportunity to come full circle in my career to serve the sport I dearly love.”
