Tribal gaming gives $31.7m to Arizona fund last quarter
Contribution is up 8.7% over same quarter in previous fiscal year.
Tribal casinos contributed $31.7m to the Arizona Benefits Fund during the most recent quarter, which was the second quarter of fiscal year 2021.
According to the Arizona Department of Gaming, the tribal gaming contribution was up 8.7% from Q2 of fiscal year 2020 despite restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic.
Per the Arizona Tribal-State Gaming Compact, tribes with casinos contribute 1% to 8% of their Class III gross gaming revenue to the state, cities, towns and counties. Currently, there are 25 Class III casinos in Arizona, which the ADG regulates with Arizona tribes.
“The tribal contributions for the second quarter of FY2021 helps display the resilience of the tribal gaming industry in Arizona,” ADG director Ted Vogt said in a statement. “We thank our tribal partners from across the state for their hard work in implementing COVID-19 safety protocols to help protect patrons and staff at Arizona casinos.”
A breakdown by category of tribal gaming contributions to the Arizona Benefits Fund for the second quarter of State FY2021:
- Instructional Improvement Fund/Education: $16.3 million
- Trauma and Emergency Services Fund: $8.1 million
- Arizona Department of Gaming operating costs: $2 million
- Arizona Wildlife Conservation Fund: $2.3 million
- Tourism Fund: $2.3 million
- Problem Gambling Education, Treatment and Prevention: $634,725
Total: $31.7 million
