Ho-Chunk Inc. has launched Warhorse Gaming, LLC., which will develop casinos at three horse-racing tracks in Lincoln, Omaha and South Sioux City. Warhorse is partnering with Nebraska Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association, which oversees horse racing.
The creation of Warhorse comes a month after Nebraska voters overturned a constitutional amendment banning casino gambling.
Warhorse leaders told Nebraska news station KNOP-TV that expanding gaming will arrive in late 2021 with full casino operations up and running by 2022.
“This is an exciting time for Nebraskans,” said WarHorse Gaming Executive Director Brian Chamberlain said in a statement reported by KNOP-TV. “Our team is working tirelessly to bring first-class gaming and entertainment to the state. Though there is still a great deal of work to be done, we’re excited for the chance to bring a new industry to the state, and with it, an entirely new source of tax revenue and career opportunities.”
Nebraskans long resisted bringing casinos to their state but this year voters overwhelmingly supported measures to allow the creation of racetrack gaming and casino gaming at tracks. Gaming revenues will be taxed at 20%.
