Virginia casinos rake in $59m in June revenue

The Virginia Lottery has published its June casino revenue results. During the month, the state’s three casinos brought in a combined revenue total of $59.5m.
Nearly $44m of June’s total revenue came from slots, while the remaining $15.5m came from table games.
In a breakdown of revenue by casino, Rivers Casino Portsmouth emerged victorious as the highest earner. The casino brought in almost $26m in revenue during June.
Caesars Virigina slid into second spot with $19.2m in total revenue last month. HR Bristol contributed another $14.3m to the combined June total.
During June, the state’s casinos paid $10.7 million in taxes to the Gaming Proceeds Fund.
Caesars Virginia is the third casino to take up residence within Virginia’s borders. The facility has been open to the public for more than a year.
The state’s other casinos, Rivers Casino Portsmouth and HR Bristol welcomed guests for the first time two years ago.
Virginia lawmakers have attempted to bring additional casinos to the state for the past couple of years.
The question of whether Petersburg would welcome a casino has been answered with a resounding no. The Senate committee struck down attempts to land a casino in Petersburg during both the 2022 and 2023 legislative session.
However, lawmakers in Petersburg voted in favor of bringing in a new casino to the city earlier this year. Legislation passed in both the House of Delegates and in the Senate.
The House recently voted to adopt a recent bill proposed by Senator Lashrecse Aird by a vote of 78 to 18. Soon after passing it in the House, the Senate voted to approval the bill by a vote of 24 to 16.
