Michael Lilly promoted to President of TwinSpires Horse Racing by CDI

Lilly joined CDI in 2018 as the Senior Director of Finance at Arlington Racecourse.
Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) has announced the promotion of Michael Lilly from VP of Finance and Operations to President of TwinSpires Horse Racing. In this role, Lilly will be responsible for the overall strategy and operation of the TwinSpires Horse Racing business within CDI’s TwinSpires segment.
Lilly joined CDI in 2018 as the Senior Director of Finance at Arlington Racecourse before his promotion to VP of Finance of CDI’s TwinSpires segment in 2020 and subsequent role as VP of Finance and Operations of the company’s TwinSpires segment in 2022.
Prior to joining CDI, Lilly held several financial leadership roles in the Chicago area. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Northern Illinois University and a Master of Business Administration from DePaul University.
The promotion comes after recent news in May about a separate personnel move, as Churchill Downs hired Sam Ullrich to be the company’s VP of Investor Relations.
At the end of April, the company released its financial results for the first quarter of 2024, reporting a record-high net revenue of $590.9m, though net income dropped significantly in the quarter, by 48%, to $80.4m.
Currently headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, CDI has grown through the development of racing entertainment venues, the TwinSpires horse racing online wagering business and the operation and development of regional casino gaming properties.
