Annual gift-giving celebration had to make changes in pandemic times

Sycuan Casino Resort said it donated more than $70,000 to 21 charities during its 2020 Holiday Gift Giving Celebration.

Every December, each member of the Sycuan Tribal Council and leadership team is given the opportunity to select a charity to receive a donation from the tribe. In pre-pandemic times, a breakfast was held at the Sycuan Resort to honor the recipients. 2020 has changed everything, and this event is no exception, as donations were hand-delivered by members of the Sycuan team with social distancing, or mailed.

Rob Cinelli , Sycuan's General Manager, hand-delivered a donation to his pick, Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County.

“Although we are celebrating our Holiday Gift Giving a bit differently this year, right now is especially important for us to continue to give back to our local community,” Cinelli said in a statement. “I picked Big Brothers Big Sisters as my charity of choice because I have been a huge supporter of their mission for many years. The development of our youth is extremely important and the services that BBBS provides is invaluable to their future.”

Here is the full list of charities (A-Z): Alzheimer's Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters San Diego County, Center for Community Solutions San Diego - Bridging Hearts, Challenged Athletes Foundation, Children's Health Defense, Choice Harvest Worship Center, Computers2Kids San Diego, Dallas Pugh Foundation, ElderHelp of San Diego, JDRF San Diego Chapter, Lucky Duck Foundation, Outdoor Outreach, San Diego Equality Business Association, San Diego Pride, San Diego Rock Church – East County Campus, Second Chance, Sharp HospiceCare, Skinny Gene Project, Special Delivery San Diego, Serving Seniors San Diego and Westsiders Urban Outreach.

Sycuan Casino Resort began as a Bingo Palace in 1983. More than 37 years later, Sycuan recently completed a $260m expansion that includes a 12-story hotel tower with 300 guest rooms and 57 suites, more than 2,300 slot machines and 54 table games.
