William Hill, Kambi & more: MGCB approves 15 online gaming, sports betting licenses
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has approved the first 15 provisional licenses for online gaming, sports betting partners of the state’s commercial and tribal casino operators.
Licenses were granted to William Hill, FanDuel, Roar Digital, TwinSpires, DraftKings, GAN, Golden Nugget Online Gaming, NYX Digital Gaming, Parx Interactive, Penn Sports Interactive, PointsBet, Rush Street Interactive, Kambi, Fox Bet and Wynn Sports.
Before launch, however, platform providers must complete additional regulatory requirements.
Such requirements include the independent testing of platforms and games, and MGCB approval of internal controls. Providers must also secure occupational licenses for certain employees.
The MGCB has been accepting applications and communicating licensing requirements since May 2020, and has allowed operators to develop applications prior to launch.
Michigan residents are permitted to download the apps and create accounts, but wagers cannot be placed until approval has been granted to launch.
“The MGCB now can approve provisional licenses following the filing of the administrative rules for online gaming and sports betting 2 December with the Office of the Great Seal,” said MGCB executive director Richard S. Kalm.
“The platform providers still must meet other regulatory requirements before online gaming and sports betting can launch in Michigan. The launch date will depend on how quickly they can fulfill the requirements.
“The platform providers’ ability to meet the requirements of the laws and rules will determine which entities can be licensed for launch first.”
