With over 1,200 team members currently on staff, Navajo Gaming has honored 186 members for hitting career milestones of five, 10 and 15 years of service. Many of the veteran team members have worked their way to crucial positions within the company, including General Manager and Executive Director of Slots, Director of Security, Food and Beverage Supervisor and Executive Director of Government Affairs. 74% of management jobs are currently held by Navajos at Navajo Gaming, 60% of which include senior-level positions.
Navajo Gaming was created by the Navajo Nation in 2006 with the intention of creating jobs, increasing revenues and stimulating incremental economic development within the Navajo Nation. After less than a decade of its beginning, the company produced more than 7k jobs with an economic output of over $1bn. An additional 5,296 jobs were generated in other tribal enterprises as well including construction, utilities, ranching, agriculture and retail development. Some of these enterprises even helped build the Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort in Flagstaff where the event was held.
“Navajo Gaming employs 1,200 people, 85% of whom are Navajo citizens,” Interim CEO of Navajo Gaming Matthew Shunkamolah said.
“The award-winning AAA’s coveted Four Diamond Twin Arrows Casino Resort shares Navajo Culture through architectural nuances and local artists. Each of the property dining eateries feature “Navajo Beef,” and traditional cuisine of the Navajo people, and our invitation to stay, play and relax at one of our four properties or Travel Center is an open welcome to the Navajo Nation’s beautiful scenic transformation.”
Each team member who hit one of the milestones received a showcase of their impact and journey with the company, with a personified highlight being given to the 29 of those who reached the 15-year mark.
