Startup Rebet offering fixed odds for all playoff lines

The sportsbook was founded by college students, backed by private investors.

For the entirety of the NBA playoffs, Rebet will be offering its consumers -105 betting odds in an attempt to pull bettors away from more popular apps that see heavy traffic. With the -105 betting line, a $10 bet would win the bettor $19.52, including the original money placed.

“We are changing the narrative of the sports betting experience for fans everywhere,” said Rebet CEO Carson Hubbard.

“This year’s playoffs promises to be the most exciting basketball of the year and with the best pro basketball odds, along with unprecedented social interaction and community, fans can turn to Rebet for the best user experience throughout the postseason.”

The benefit for this move is that heavy favorites such as the Boston Celtics won’t feature such heavy lines that limit how much return on investment a consumer could receive. The downside, however, is that underdog lines (+ odds) are limited and the same challenges could arise.

Rebet was founded by Dartmouth undergrad students attempting to create an online sportsbook that allowed users to come together to not only place bets but interact within the app.

Rebet Coins and Rebet Cash are the company’s way of providing its customers with a currency that does not reflect actual money until they choose to purchase more. Rebet also focuses more on the social aspect of betting through competing with friends, placing bets that other users have shared on the app and a running social media feed.

The continuous betting odds being offered also divert from something that has become highly popular in the online sports betting industry, live betting. If Rebet chooses to offer the -105 odds for every game without change, its customers will not be able to bet based on how the game is being played in real time. On most, if not all sportsbook apps, live betting odds are featured on the main home page.

The decision by Rebet gives bettors an opportunity that has not yet been presented in the sports betting industry, but how they choose to navigate potential challenges will be something all online sportsbooks should be focused on.
