The Sweet 16 this year was the most watched ever, according to ESPN.

FanDuel recently reported that the matchup between Louisiana State University and Iowa brought in the largest number of bets on record for women’s college basketball, according to a CNBC report.

FanDuel Sportsbook SVP and General Manager Karol Corcoran said to local news, “We have seen an incredible uptick in betting on women’s sports as fans show unprecedented interest, and we look forward to seeing how fans engage during the Final Four."

ESPN noted that this year’s women’s Sweet 16 was “its most watched on record.” Viewership rose by 96% when compared to stats from the previous year.

FanDuel attributed the LSU and Iowa game’s record betting activity to a combination of a “heated rematch” between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese and the presence of coaching legend Kim Mulkey. The acclaimed coach had been making recent headlines throughout the season.

In other company news, the Office of Lottery and Gaming (OLG) recently named FanDuel as Intralot’s new sports wagering subcontractor. Per the terms of the deal, FanDuel will launch its sports wagering app to players in Washington DC.

Players will also have access to FanDuel’s website and retail platforms.

OLG Executive Director Frank Suarez commented, “FanDuel’s industry-leading offering will ensure that the District maximizes tax revenue under its existing contracts this year while delivering a best-in-class experience for 18+ residents.”

OLG went on to add that it will continue to “maintain its strong commitment to responsible gaming oversight.

“The FanDuel platform offers built-in app safeguards, allowing customers to set deposits, wagers, and time limits for their play.”
