This year's NIGA Indian Gaming Tradeshow & Convention was my first experience of a tribal gaming conference, and it was one of the most fascinating trips of my working career to date. After sprinting to avoid missing my connection flight from San Francisco to San Diego (easily the most stressful hour of my life), I realized there are far worse places to be for work than what I was told is one of the most laid back cities in the US.

Also included in that trip was a meeting with Loren Gill and Peter Arceo – the new CEO and General Manager respectively of San Manuel Casino. As you will see when reading our cover feature article (P12), both are incredibly passionate about where they take the casino from here. With a $550m renovation project in full swing, and with a new management team overseeing it, it was the perfect time to catch up with two men who have seen at first hand a transformation that has made their casino the second-most-visited tourist destination in California. .

Of course, there were also important matters within tribal gaming to be discussed at the show, not least how tribes fit into the ever-increasing sports betting landscape in the US. A transcript of an expert panel on this topic is covered within these pages (P30). .

Elsewhere in this magazine, we include our fascinating chat with American iGaming Solutions CEO Jason Rosenberg (P26), talking about his career in gaming, the future of mobile sports betting in the US, chimpanzees and wolves – as you do. .

Meanwhile, it's worth remembering poker still has a place in today's gaming world, and the World Series of Poker reaching its 50th year is testament to this. Sean Chaffin's feature assesses the event's current status (P17). .

We hope you enjoy the magazine and encourage you to join us for a packed September/October issue ahead of this year's G2E. .
